In the wake of the Valentine's Day mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, hundreds of schools have been the subject of threats in the interim.
An uptick of copycat threats after mass shootings have been documented prior to the Parkland shooting. The Educator's School Safety Network reported 369 "total incidents and threats" since February 15, and they reported an average of 50 threats per day in the week since. That's five times more than the typical 10 per day they document.
Below is a list of states where there have been multiple threats made in the last week.
Indiana:
Over 20 arrests have been made in more 15 instances in Indiana since the Parkland massacre. Three were made the day right after the attack, one of which included a student holding a gun and saying "don't go to school tomorrow" on Snapchat.
Virginia:
At least eight Virginian students have been charged for making school threats since the Stoneman Douglas shooting last week. They range in age from 11 to 18, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
Ohio:
At least five threats have been made against schools in Ohio, including a vague threat against "SHS" that may have referenced four schools.
Mississippi:
The Jackson,Mississippi-based Clarion-Ledger newspaper reported that 18 threats have been made to middle and high schools in the state.
Texas:
Twenty-seven threats were made against schools in the San Antonio area alone since the Parkland mass shooting last week.
California:
There were seven threats against schools in Southern California in the week since the Stoneman Douglas shooting.
Colorado:
Colorado schools have been subjected to at least nine threats in the past week, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
Florida:
Florida's WCGU created an interactive map that documented nearly 75 threats made against Florida schools in the last week.
