7-year-old California boy shooting 'youth rifle' shot in chest at family's homemade range

A 7-year-old Georgetown, California boy was shot in the chest as he fired a .22-caliber "youth rifle" at his family's homemade firing range on Saturday.

KCRA Channel 3 reported that the El Dorado County boy was shooting at targets with his father when a bullet ricocheted and struck his upper body.

A press release from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department said that he grabbed his chest in pain, which was when his father noticed a hole in the boy's shirt and that he was bleeding from the chest.

A medical team airlifted the boy to UC Davis Medical Center. He is expected to make a full recovery, although his exact medical condition is unknown.

Deputies said that an investigation of the incident is underway. They did confirm that the father and son and other family members were firing weapons on their own property at a homemade firing range.
