'Not a serious party': Ex-Republican buries senators for letting Trump derail their work

As the U.S. Senate neared a bipartisan deal that would give funding to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan while offering legislative solutions to the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, Donald Trump chimed in on the matter and threatened to derail the effort.

On Monday, Trump said that "a border bill is not necessary."

"They are using this horrific Senate Bill as a way of being able to put the BORDER DISASTER onto the shoulders of the Republicans. The Democrats BROKE THE BORDER, they should fix it," Trump posted on Truth Social.

During an appearance on CNN Tuesday, former GOP Congressman Adam Kinzinger slammed his party for allowing Trump to interfere with the potential bipartisan deal on the border and Ukraine.

"The whole party has become a joke in terms of what it's going for," Kinzinger said.

"It pretends to be a party of policy," he continued, adding that when he was an active congressman, "we were focused on policy."

"...Now, President Biden has come forward and said, 'Okay, I'm basically going to give you everything you asked for,' and now the Republican position — after Donald Trump said he wants this issue politically — the Republican position has been, 'We don't need to change policy. The President can do this on his own already.'"

"It's not a serious party," Kinzinger continued. "Linking the issue of Ukraine and the border is very bad and very wrong. They're very different issues."
