President Donald Trump on Friday took the gloves off and started directly attacking the integrity of Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of trying to assault her when they were both teenagers.
“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents,” the president wrote on Twitter. “I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”
According to well connected New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump's direct attacks on Ford may be a panic move from a president who is terrified that his latest Supreme Court nomination will crash and burn.
"Several people told me yesterday that Trump by end of day was more anxious about whether Kavanaugh makes it through," Haberman writes.
Haberman also says that Trump's tweets questioning why Ford didn't come forward sooner after allegedly being attacked decades ago would be major fodder for Democratic campaigns in the upcoming midterm elections.
"Strategists already counting on women being energized for November will appreciate the chance to talk about why many women don’t report attacks, after this tweet," she writes.
