A spokesperson for former Sen. Al Franken shot down reports that he would challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) seat representing New York, reports Politico Playbook.
According to the report, Franken had left open the prospect of running for office again ("I am keeping my options open") when asked about a New York run and now has stated he won't challenge the junior New York senator.
"Franken declined comment by phone when we asked about his interest in primarying Gillibrand. He referred us to his spokeswoman, Alexandra Fetissoff who said 'he has no intention of running for Senate.'" later clarifying Franken stated, "Yes, I miss the Senate but I'm not going to run against Kirsten Gillibrand."
The report also notes that Franken still holds a grudge against the New York senator who was at the forefront of calling for him to step down over accusations of sexual harassment.
Playbook reports, "Sources close to the former Minnesota senator say that's he's still outraged over how Gillibrand pushed for him to resign at the height of the #MeToo movement four years ago."
