'Not constitutionally permissible': Ex-Trump lawyer says GOP judge impeachment will 'fail'

Law professor Alan Dershowitz, a defender of President Donald Trump, insisted Republican attempts to impeach judges ruling against the Trump administration were "not constitutionally permissible" and would eventually fail.

During a Wednesday interview on Real America's Voice, Dershowitz was asked about Trump allies who want to impeach U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg and other members of the judiciary for blocking parts of Trump's agenda.

"It's not constitutionally permissible," he explained. "Although the rule may be different for judges because they serve during good behavior, I don't think writing a bad opinion is a basis for impeachment."

"But impeachment is probably a remedy that is destined to fail because you're never gonna get two-thirds of the Senate to remove," he added.

Dershowitz, however, blamed "Trump derangement syndrome" for rulings against the president.

"They hate Trump," he insisted. "They'll do anything to stop them. They see themselves as part of the resistance, and they're not acting as judges."
