Alex Jones says he'll likely plead the 5th during Capitol riot testimony -- because he fears being caught lying
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones said on Tuesday that he'll likely invoke his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination when he goes to testify before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol riots.
As reported by Politico's Kyle Cheney, Jones claimed that he would probably plead the Fifth because he fears that the committee would "try to catch him in a lie and get DOJ to prosecute him over it."
Additionally, Jones said that he would happily testify live and on camera, although Cheney notes that the committee is highly unlikely to allow that.
Trump ally Roger Stone, who was also subpoenaed by the committee on Monday, similarly said that he would likely assert his Fifth Amendment rights as an excuse to not testify at all.
It is unclear so far how much resistance the committee will tolerate from Stone and Jones or whether they'll be hit with criminal contempt charges as Trump ally Steve Bannon was earlier this month.
