Alina Habba renews 'weird attack' on Letitia James drinking Starbucks in court
February 17, 2024
Trump lawyer Alina Habba, who recently represented the ex-president in the fraud case in which he was ultimately ordered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars, has an ongoing obsession with prosecutor Letitia James drinking Starbucks in court.
Habba raised the issue during the trial before Justice Engoron, according to MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin. Specifically, on Jan. 11, Rubin said that Habba was "attacking Tish James for bringing in a cup of Starbucks to the courtroom and taking off her shoes this morning."
Rubin also points out that Engoron questioned the "relevance of her weird attack on the Attorney General," but noted that "the AG's own team is silent."

But that wasn't the end of Habba's comments about that moment.
After the former president was hit with a massive penalty in the case, Habba went on Fox News to give an interview after which she was skewered for her innuendos. Also in that interview, Habba renewed her so-called weird attack.
"Ms. James had her shoes off in court. Let's not forget that," Habba said, according to a transcript from Newsweek.
She then added: "I called it out in the closing argument, but it's true. She had a Starbucks coffee in her hand, she wasn't doing work, she wasn't sitting at the counsel chamber, she wasn't sitting at the counsel table, she was in the back with her shoes off and a coffee and at the end of the day we're sitting there going 'this is the state of our country.'"
She further claimed that attorneys general "are so comfortable in court that they know that they don't even have to do the job, they don't have to do the work, they're going to let people do it."
Online, people made fun of Habba.
One user wrote, "Court: Ms Habba, can you describe the perpetrator, please? Alina: Yes, your Honor. She had her shoes off, sitting in the back, drinking a Starbucks Grande Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato with almond milk and an extra shot of espresso."
