Amy Poehler and 'Portlandia' star host surprise same-sex wedding: 'All of us here are rooting for you'

A stop on Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein's book tour turned into something bigger when she and actress Amy Poehler were asked to officiate an impromptu same-sex wedding, LAist reported.

"All of us here are rooting for you," said to the couple, 25-year-old Genevieve Hernandez and 23-year-old Kendall Oshiro. "In the way that we always root for ourselves, in the way that we root for love to always win out over despair, for hope to win out over fear, for joy to win out over sorrow, we root for you in those ways."

Poehler was Brownstein's guest as the Sleater Kinney guitarist discussed her newly-published memoir at a local church. Brownstein had explained earlier in the tour that she had recently been ordained in order to preside over two friends' wedding later on this month.

After hearing that Brownstein was able to perform weddings from a friend, Oshiro said, she bought a marriage license in Orange County before attending the event with Hernandez.

"I told Gen, 'How cool would it be if Amy Poehler and Carrie Brownstein were on our marriage license?'" Oshiro said.

After encouraging Brownstein to accept the couple's request, Poehler ducked behind a piano, telling the couple, "I only know the first part of 'Greensleeves.'" As the ceremony ended, the former Parks and Recreation star banged out some impromptu notes on the piano to mark the occasion.
