Ana Navarro rips Trump's immigration 'softening': Latinos aren't going to get 'amnesia' about him

CNN commentator Ana Navarro dismissed the idea on Tuesday that Donald Trump was "softening" his position on immigration -- or that it would magically boost his poll numbers with Latino voters.

"This isn't like that movie Men in Black, where they had that little doohickey where you erase the memory," Navarro told Anderson Cooper. "Latinos remember, immigrants remember, all of America remember -- this man has based his bashing immigrants, on bashing Hispanics for 15 months. No, we're not going to get election time amnesia."

As Reuters reported, Trump said during a Fox News town hall earlier in the evening that he was open to a "softening" on his immigration policy, which was based on the idea of building a wall separating the US from Mexico -- at the latter country's expense -- and deporting the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the former.

"We're not looking to hurt people," he told Sean Hannity.

But Navarro attributed the remarks to the "very positive influence" of Kellyann Conway, his new campaign manager.

"I think what you are watching is a testing of the temperature of the water," Navarro said. "They're putting in one little toe at a time."
