Axelrod blasts Romney's 'penchant for secrecy'

David Axelrod, Obama's senior campaign strategist, continued to hammer Mitt Romney on Thursday for refusing to release more tax returns.

"Gov. Romney's father, George Romney, set a standard back in the '60s when he was running for president and he released 12 years of tax returns because he said one year is not enough, you can manipulate one year to create a false impression," he said on CNN.

The Republican candidate has released his tax returns for 2010 and vowed release his 2011 tax returns when they are ready, but has refused to release more. His 2010 tax return showed that he hides his wealth in offshore tax havens in Switzerland and in the Cayman Islands.

"Governor Romney thinks he can operate under a different set of rules," Axelrod said. "He has a sense of entitlement that he doesn't have to operate under the same set of rules that presidential candidates have for decades."

He also noted that after serving as Massachusetts’ governor, Romney completely replaced all the computers in his office, forever eliminating the data stored on the old computers.
