Conservative commentator and former “The View” co-host Meghan McCain set off a firestorm the day after the Super Bowl by praising the halftime performance of international superstar Bad Bunny and questioning his critics’ “taste.”
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, offered up a serving of Puerto Rican culture during his performance, which reportedly set a halftime viewership record, drawing the ire of President Donald Trump who complained in part, “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!”
McCain, whose husband, Ben Domenech, has a Puerto Rican background, disagreed and took to X to write, “I’m sorry but I just genuinely question your taste level if you didn’t enjoy the Bad Bunny halftime show. And everything in life doesn’t have to be ruined with politics.”
That did not sit well with conservatives, who were furious that the entertainer’s performance was almost entirely in Spanish, and they let her know it on X.
“I don't speak Spanish, so I didn't understand anything sung/spoken during the performance. Didn't recognize the scenery either though I suppose it connected/reflected Puerto Rico. Thus, I didn't enjoy the show,” veteran Sean A. Raesemann calmly explained.
Others were not so reasonable.
Christian podcaster Drew Thomas Allen argued, “Lyrics are disgusting and inappropriate for families and kids watching.”
Megyn Kelly wrote on X, "As if we needed further assurance that the 'taste levels' of conservative America do not align with @MeghanMcCain’s."
MAGA fan Scott Groh complained, “It's not politics he's anti-American but I wouldn't expect you to understand that.”
“If you enjoyed the vulgar and overtly sexualized halftime show, you’re gross,” conspiracy-minded Brenda Mitcham wrote.
“A cross dresser who mumbles in Spanish is better taste than what they did at the TPUSA halftime show? You're not serious,” Christian Constitution Conservative “Prison Mike” argued.
“Why did they ruin the halftime show with politics then? It's the USA's 250th birthday and the NFL decided to celebrate Spain?” crypto supporter Extant Buffalo curiously offered.
Donald Trump supporter Randy the Savage got personal and wrote to McCain, “We shan't be taking advice on good taste from a McCain, especially one that always looks like a foil wrapped dinner ham.”
