Barron Trump is still in college, and according to an estimate cited by The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board, he has already made about $40 million from his family's cryptocurrency business.
The editorial board included the figure, which comes from Forbes, in a Saturday editorial on how members of the Trump family have profited during President Donald Trump's second term.
"Even Trump's youngest son, Barron, 20, who is still in college, made an estimated $40 million off the family's crypto venture," the board wrote.
The venture is World Liberty Financial, which Trump launched in September 2024 with his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. Barron was listed in the company's early promotional materials as its "DeFi visionary."
The editorial board said the company raised conflict-of-interest concerns from the start. It pointed to a firm tied to the United Arab Emirates that paid $500 million for a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial four days before Trump's inauguration, citing the Wall Street Journal. A few months later, the board wrote, the Emirati government reached a deal with the administration to import advanced AI chips.
Citing the Financial Times, the board said the Trump family has reportedly made $1 billion in pretax profits from crypto-related products and companies since Trump returned to the White House.
The board also noted that Trump once called cryptocurrency "a scam." As president, he signed executive orders backing the industry, and his Justice Department disbanded the unit that investigated crypto crimes.
The board said relatives of past presidents have tried to cash in on the family name, pointing to Billy Carter, Roger Clinton and Hunter Biden. None of them, it wrote, was "anywhere near as brazen or greedy."
The Trump Organization has said it is "fully compliant with all applicable ethics and conflicts of interest laws."
