Two Christian leaders are not seeing eye to eye on how the bible defines prosperity.
In a Facebook post, Costi Hinn, the nephew of televangelist Benny Hinn, accused Bethel Church leader Kris Vallotton of being a "False Prophet," according to Christian Today.
Earlier this month, Vallotton, shared on Facebook that his red hot luxury car was keyed. Vallotton wrote: "Yesterday, while we were at dinner at Outback somebody keyed the side of my car from the front to the back! It’s kind of sad that people can destroy other people‘s hard earned stuff."
Instead of using the situation to complain he gave God glory and blessed his enemies. Vallotton continued: "On the other hand I often feel like God can use negative things in our life to test our hearts. I like my car a lot, but it’s just a car, it’s not an Idol... I don’t live for it... and I don’t get my identity from it. I pray for those people who tried to destroy my stuff. They are enemies that need love not vengeance, unforgiveness, or hatefulness. I asked God to bless them and help them to see His goodness in the world around them."
Costi Hinn, who recently left the leadership of his uncle's prosperity teaching, said that Vallotton's message did not reflect the true meaning of riches and honor. In a Facebook post Hinn said: "Friends, Kris Vallaton is a false prophet. His luxury car is not hard earned. It's easy money deceiving people."
Hinn also mentioned his past convictions with money and wealth. "We used to have Benz, Ferrari, and Hummer," Hinn wrote. "Barely broke a sweat except when shopping on a hot day in Beverly Hills. This isn't persecution. It's just a false teacher with a key'd hot rod."
Hinn is the executive pastor at The Mission Bible Church in Orange County, California. In a recent interview he said the true meaning of prosperity is to be generous. He explained that while under the leadership of his uncle he lived a lavish lifestyle, and and would often spend $25,000 a night just for a hotel stay.
"That's really not the heartbeat of Christianity," he said. "The heartbeat of Christianity, is if you have wealth, you want to be generous and rich in good works. If God has blessed you with a lot, you have a great responsibility."
