In a show of solidarity in a fractious Democratic party, former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders nominated his rival Hillary Clinton this evening at the Democratic National Convention. DNC officials had spent much of Tuesday afternoon negotiating with Sanders' team to have the fiery Vermont senator make a stand for Democratic unity by nominating Clinton.
"I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president," said Sanders at the conclusion of the roll call vote.
After an afternoon of talks, the nomination took place after a full roll call, where Bernie delegates were allowed to cast their votes for their candidate. Vermont's delegation deferred their votes, and were granted permission to go last. At that point, Bernie Sanders, leading the Vermont delegation, stepped up to the microphone.
Even at 2:50 p.m. EDT, news outlets were still reporting that a final agreement had not been reached between the two camps.
Representative John Lewis and Senator Barbara Mikulski put Secretary Clinton's name into nomination.
