Bill Barr accuses Robert Mueller of being 'a bit snitty' in letter criticizing a whitewash of the Russia report

Attorney General William Barr on Wednesday accused special counsel Robert Mueller and his staff of being "snitty" in a letter.

At a Senate hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) asked Barr to recount the details of Mueller's letter, which criticized the attorney general for putting his spin on the Russia report.

"This letter was an extraordinary act," Blumenthal said. "A career prosecutor rebuking the attorney general of the United Nations, memorializing in writing, right? I know of no other instance of that happening."

"I don't consider Bob at this stage a career prosecutor," Barr shot back. "But he was also political appointee and political appointee with me at the Department of Justice."

"I don't -- you know, the letter is a bit snitty and I think it was probably written by one of his staff people," the attorney general added.
