Bill Maher: Orlando shooting response exposed Trump for 'what he is -- a narcissist'

Real Time host Bill Maher argued on Friday that Donald Trump had done his presidential campaign in within the past week by letting his selfishness come through.

"The judge thing looked selfish. There is no constituency for Trump University except for Donald Trump," Maher said of Trump's tirades regarding federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel. "And then the first thing out of his mouth after Orlando was, 'I was right.'" He looks like what he is -- a narcissist."

Trump drew widespread criticism after saying on Twitter that he "accepted the congrats" for his take on the mass shooting inside a gay bar in the city.

Business Insider senior editor Josh Barro said the public demonstrated "better sense than we realize" in its response to both controversies surrounding Trump.

"It turns out Americans don't like blatantly racist attacks on the judiciary that also signal that a president might use his own power to support his businesses and defeat his political opponents through untoward things," said Barro. "And then the response to the shooting. I think there had been this idea that if there was terrorism that it would be good for Trump."

Maher went a step further, describing the missteps as fatal to the presumptive Republican nominee's presidential hopes.

"I see it as, this was the week it ended," he said. "I don't think I'm the only one, because most of the Republicans who were caught on camera this week basically said, 'I don't want to talk about it.'"
