Bill Maher rips Walmart: 'How about giving your employees a raise, you deluded nitwit?'

That the "absurdly rich" heiress to the Walmart commercial empire had $1 billion lying around to use for opening an art museum in Arkansas had Real Time host Bill Maher fuming on Friday.

"She said, 'For years I've been thinking about what we can do as a family to really make a difference,'" Maher said of Alice Walton. "How about giving your employees a raise, you deluded nitwit?"

What people like Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) don't understand, Maher said, is that the U.S is less a country of "lazy people and good people" than one of "rich people and desperate people," pointing to the massive increase in both the cost of a college education and the amount of people who are in debt on their student loans.

For that reason, he explained, he didn't fault Duke University student Belle Knox's decision to pursue a career in adult films.

"I'm surprised they're not all doing porn" Maher said. "And even if Miss Knox wanted to pay her way through school serving hot dogs at Wienerschnitzel, there are no jobs at Wienerschnitzel. So instead she occasionally takes a wiener in the schnitzel."

Maher also found it hard to blame the McDonald's employee in Pittsburgh who was arrested for allegedly selling heroin to customers at the drive-thru.

"She didn't do it because she likes heroin -- although it's probably no worse for you than the filet o' fish," Maher said. "She did it because you can't raise two kids on seven dollars and seventy-two cents an hour."
