Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti dismissed claims that he is carrying on the Daniels case to fuel fire into his potential presidential campaign in 2020.
CNN's Jim Acosta asked why he kept Daniels case against President Donald Trump in the public eye.
"I would be remiss if I didn't ask this question, your critics say you're just using this to stay in the spotlight because you want to run for president," Acosta said on Monday.
He added, "There was a story over the weekend that you want to base your campaign in St.Louis, where you spent part of your childhood. Are you just continuing this case in order to keep that conversation going?"
Avenatti responded by saying the claim was "blatantly false."
"That's just blatantly false. I don't need this case to stay in the spotlight, frankly," Avenatti said. "At this point, I've received a lot of publicity and notoriety, as my client has. I don't think that's going to change one bit if the case goes away."
He continued, "Our goals have remained the same. We want the truth laid out for the American people. I think that people want the president deposed. They want to know exactly what happened here. They want the facts and the evidence, so they can make their own determinations."
He added, "People over the last 72 hours have been coming out of the woodworks and encouraging us to keep up the fight and we're going to continue to do so."
