'It borders on treason': Ex-ambassador to China tells CNN Trump 'can't be trusted' with classified info

Max Baucus, a former Democratic senator from Montana and a former U.S. ambassador to China, did not mince words when discussing the threat President Donald Trump poses to American national security.

During an appearance on CNN, Baucus said he was absolutely floored by Trump's actions this week and that he doesn't know how the intelligence community can do its job when the president can't be trusted.

When Poppy Harlow pointed to a New York Times report about Trump receiving hard evidence that Putin had interfered in the 2016 election as far back as January 2017, Baucus tore into the president for continuing to question what has been obvious to the American intelligence community for years now.

"He cannot be trusted," Baucus said bluntly of Trump. "You cannot trust this man. More likely than not, he will transfer classified information to a foreign power -- he can't be trusted."

Baucus went on to say that Trump's actions with regard to Russia come very close to outright betraying the United States.

"It borders on virtual treason, quite frankly," he said.
