Breaking: Jerry Sandusky found guilty on 45 out of 48 counts of child sexual abuse

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was found guilty Friday on 45 out of 48 counts of child sex abuse.

Sandusky's lawyer asked for him to be released under house arrest, but the judge refused and revoked his bail. He was taken from the courthouse in handcuffs, as a crowd waiting outside cheered, and will be jailed until his sentencing.

Scott Berkowtiz, founder of the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, praised the verdict as "a landmark day for survivors of sexual violence across the nation."

The 68 year old Sandusky faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 60 years -- though it could be a lot more -- and is expected to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Sandusky had been charged with sexually abusing 10 boys over a fifteen-year period. He was also accused of having used his position within the Penn State football powerhouse to find boys through a charity he had established for troubled youths and "groom" them for sexual relationships.

The resulting scandal led Pennsylvania State Universities to fire head coach Joe Paterno last fall for not having prevented the abuse. Paterno died two months later of lung cancer.
