Top Trump cheerleader feels heat as he's pulled over in DC crime takeover

As more than 1,650 federal officers and dozens of National Guard troops continue to swarm the streets of Washington, D.C. amid President Donald Trump’s takeover of the nation’s capital, Fox News’ own Bret Baier appeared to get caught up in all the chaos.

A video posted to the social media platform X Tuesday shows Baier, driving what appears to be a Mercedes-Benz G-Class luxury SUV, pulled over by a D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer, the agency of which remains under federal control.

Baier was asked about the encounter on social media, to which he blamed himself for taking a phone call while driving.

“I picked up my ringing phone as I drove past an officer while driving my wife’s car in Georgetown,” Baier wrote on X. “He pointed to have me pull over – I did. He was very professional. I had to dig for the registration card. Got a ticket and left. I didn’t know there was paparazzi.”

One X user that describes themself as a “Catholic Republican MAGA grandmama” asked Baier why he appeared to be ‘scowling’ during the encounter, to which Baier blamed his struggle reading a registration card without his glasses.

The D.C. takeover was launched by Trump last week in an effort to combat crime in the city and, as of Sunday, has produced more than 300 arrests. Considering the millions of dollars in costs for the operation, however, the number of arrests has been mocked by critics, who’ve labeled the operation as largely performative.

Trump invoked Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to declare a crime emergency in D.C., which does grant the president the authority to place the MPD under federal control, but for only 30 days, with an extension requiring approval in Congress.

Given Republicans’ slim majority in Congress, an extension on Trump’s capital takeover is unlikely, though a White House insider has already suggested the president may seek to make the takeover “permanent.”
