Brooklyn man blew $700,000 on psychic who promised to reunite him with lover who was dead

A Brooklyn man's absolute unwillingness to take "no" as an answer from the woman he was in love with - but who didn't return his feelings - led him to blow hundreds of thousands of dollars on a psychic who convinced him to buy things like a "spirit bridge" and time-traveling Rolex watch.

In a surreal court case uncovered by the New York Times, the man, who lives in East Williamsburg but isn't named in legal documents, went to Times Square psychic Priscilla Kelly Delmaro in 2013 to seek help winning over a woman named "Michelle."

But, “The girl didn’t want to be with me, and the girl had categorically made that clear,” he wrote in a statement.

And so begins the madness. The 32-year-old, who worked in marketing in Manhattan, couldn't accept Michelle's rebuff. Evil spirits from another dimension were apparently a more believable explanation for it than the simple idea he just didn't do it for her.

After being convinced by Delmaro that spirits talk to her and had told her he and Michelle were "twin flames," the man began dropping larger and larger sums of money - $2,500 for the first visit then $9,000 for the second, according to the Times.

After buying Delmaro a $40,000 Tiffany's ring because she told him she needed the diamonds to protect his energy, Delmaro told him it was time to visit Michelle, who was in Los Angeles. To his delight, the two met. But then things went south.

While Michelle probably didn't know he was spending thousands of dollars in efforts to control the spirit world so they could be together, she sensed something was off. After making plans, Michelle backed out because she felt the man had been "acting strange," his statement said.

According to the Times:

Ms. Delmaro told him the trouble had come from a spirit that was stalking him. She needed $28,000, then $28,000 more. Michelle had grown cold so suddenly, he thought, that the spirit explanation sounded right, and so he paid.

He then paid Delmaro another $40,000 for a fake funeral to trick the spirits into thinking he had died. That didn't work. So Delmaro told him she needed a time machine so she could "cleanse" his past, and a $30,000 Rolex would do the trick. But Delmaro still needed to build two bridges to the spirit world, and those would cost nearly $200,000.

In the end, it wasn't the idea of time travel with a Rolex or spirit bridges that tipped him off that he was being scammed. Sadly and unexpectedly, Michelle died. He found this out when, in stalker fashion, he read her Facebook page.

Delmaro promised the man she would revive Michelle from the dead via reincarnation. At this point, he had burned through all his money. But he found thousands more for this final effort. He traveled back to L.A. to meet reincarnated Michelle. But when he realized "new Michelle" was not the same woman he had fallen in love with, the whole house of cards collapsed.

“This caused me to start thinking,” the Times reported he wrote, “that Delmaro wasn’t everything she was purporting to be.”

In the end, he lost his belongings and spent a whopping $713,975. He hired a private investigator and brought his case before police, who arrested Delmaro and a companion on grand larceny charges. The Times reports that they remain in jail.
