BUSTED: Gunman caught toting assault rifle and bump-stock because it wouldn't fit in his suitcase

A Brooklyn, New York man was arrested after he was caught with an assault rifle and a bump stock hanging out of a small rolling suitcase.

The New York Daily Newsreported Anthony Morgan was arrested previously with the weapon, but after 911 calls came in Monday, police began looking for him again.

Police said that there was "no mistaking the gun butt" hanging out of his suitcase. When they first confronted the man he fled and when they caught up to him, he tried to pull the rifle out.

Citing court documents, The Daily News said that Morgan stopped and turned toward officers exiting their police cruiser. He tried to pull the weapon out but it got stuck. So, he threw the whole suitcase at the officers and ran.

Earlier this month, Morgan was caught with the weapon and 70 rounds of ammunition.

“This gun was actually out (in) public in #NYC — until these #Brooklyn officers seized it, along with more than 70 rounds of ammunition,” New York Police Department Chief Rodney Harrison tweeted. “Outstanding work helping to keep the people of #BedStuy safe.”

These last two offenses add to 20 prior arrests over the years, primarily for weapons possession, according to police. He was previously arrested in October in the same neighborhood but for assault.

Police said Monday they recovered a loaded Sharps 5.56-caliber AR-15 semiautomatic rifle outfitted with a bump stock attachment from the suitcase. The gun is the same the Las Vegas gunman used in 2017.

Bump stocks are officially illegal as of Tuesday.
