'Debbie Downer' James Carville bashed by MSNBC panel for panic over Kamala Harris

Reacting to an appearance by veteran Democratic strategist James Carville on MSNBC Thursday night in which he attempted to pour cold water on enthusiasm for Vice President Kamala Harris, the panel on "Morning Joe" hammered him for underestimating what is going on.

With Carville giving a dark warning that Donald Trump and his allies are going to come after Harris hard with an avalanche of attacks, former Hillary Clinton spokesperson Jennifer Palmieri all but rolled her eyes and stated that his point was more than obvious — and he needed to dial down the doom.

"I don't understand why James has to be a Debbie Downer," the exasperated Palmieri complained. "I don't know why we need to step on our enthusiasm, seriously. Democrats are enthusiastic, they're excited to have an answer to the question about who is the best person to take on Donald Trump."

"I don't think anybody is unaware of how nasty the Republicans can get and that it is a difficult race," she continued while speaking to host Jonathan Lemire. "You know, the vice president has seen a big jump in polling, right? That's sort of what is hard, is the last two, three percentage points, right? That's what the whole game is about. "

"We've had really great week, her numbers are improving and I think it's true that the Republicans are caught off guard," she added. "They don't quite know how to attack her or, you know, what her ticket is going to end up being."

MSNBC's "The Weekend" co-host Symoine Sanders-Townsend chimed in, "I haven't lived as long as Mr. Carville or you, Mr. Chairman [Michael Steele] but I think that James Carville, I just — why are we trampling on the enthusiasm of the Democratic Party electorate? That's what I thought y'all people wanted."

"Folks talking about, oh, apparently, they didn't feel the president [Biden] was speaking directly to the voters, the Democratic voters didn't want the president. They wanted something new and exciting; they didn't want this matchup, that's what James Carville said two days ago. He said, 72% of the country wants something different.

"Now that the 72% have gotten something a little different, now you're telling them don't be excited, you need to calm down? That this doesn't matter?" she asked.
