'Chaos yet again': CNN's John King mocks Trump for bumbling roll-out of border plan

CNN host John King on Thursday mocked the Trump White House for being unable to answer even basic questions about President Donald Trump's plan to send National Guard troops to the U.S. Mexico border.

King started off his show by saying Trump had given "mixed messages" about refugees heading toward the United States, as he praised the Mexican government for "breaking up" the so-called "caravans" of immigrants, while at the same time insisting that the immigrants were a national security crisis that required the deployment of the National Guard.

"The administration says the troops are coming," King continued. "But that it can't the most basic questions is proof of chaos, yet again, after another presidential announcement not worked through the normal policy process."

As an example, King says the administration has not said whether the National Guard soldiers will be armed or whether they will simply be there to provide logistical support to border patrol agents. In fact, noted King, the Department of Homeland Security couldn't even give an estimate for the number of troops that would be needed at the border.

All of this left King confused about what the administration's real aims are with this policy.

"I thought you deployed the National Guard in a crisis," he said. "That doesn't sound like there's a crisis."
