MAGA group fat-shames Chris Christie while taking a dig at Ron DeSantis

A spokesperson for a Donald Trump super PAC on Tuesday issued a statement mocking Chris Christie's weight while, at the same time, attacking Ron DeSantis.

Christie is expected to announce his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday.

“Ron DeSantis’ campaign is spiraling, and President Trump’s dominance over the Republican primary field has opened a mad rush to seize the mantle for runner-up," said MAGA Inc. spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt

"Ron DeSantis is not ready for this moment, and Chris Christie will waste no time eating DeSantis’ lunch."

Christie, who also ran in 2016, on Tuesday formally filed his candidacy and is expected to formally announce it at a New Hampshire event, joining a large and growing field of candidates that includes Trump.

The Associated Press reports that Christie, who "during his time as New Jersey’s governor established a reputation as a fighter with a knack for creating viral moments of confrontation, faces an uphill battle to the nomination in a party that remains closely aligned with the former president, despite Trump’s reelection loss in 2020 and Republicans’ poorer-than-expected showing in the 2022 midterm elections."

The former New Jersey governor is positioning himself as an alternative to Trump who's willing to engage with the former president.

“I’m not dumb. The way to win is to beat the guy who’s ahead. And so what would a campaign look like? A campaign would look like a direct frontal challenge to Donald Trump trying to return to the presidency,” Christie recently said in a podcast interview.
