Chris Cuomo schools Trump supporter who says president-elect not obligated to denounce neo-Nazi fans

Although Donald Trump has repeatedly said he doesn't want the support of white supremacists, they can't seem to stop themselves from worshiping him and celebrating his victory.

That was evident this past weekend when white nationalist Richard Spencer led a group of like-minded racists in a chant of "Heil Trump!" during an "alt-right" conference in Washington, D.C. Although Trump's team released a very weak statement saying that the president-elect rejects all forms of racism, that still hasn't quieted calls for him to more forcefully reject his white supremacist fans.

On CNN Tuesday, Trump supporter John Phillips had a debate with Chris Cuomo and Christine Quinn over whether Trump needs to make clear that white supremacists will have no influence in his policy-making decisions.

Phillips tried to shut down the conversation by trying to ask Quinn if she really believed that Trump was in his heart a white supremacist. Although she wouldn't say that he was, Cuomo interjected and said that was not the point of the conversation.

"If these [white supremacist] groups targeted you the way they've targeted her, the way they've targeted me, you'd feel differently about it," Cuomo said. "It's okay to be a white guy, but... you've got all these other white guys raising their hands and pretending to be Nazis."

Cuomo then went on to say that this wasn't about whether Trump was really a white supremacist, but whether he really wants to be president for all Americans, not just the ones who voted for him.

"It's about being a leader," said Cuomo. "You denounce things not just because you're looking for a label, it doesn't matter whether or not he's a bigot, it's that he denounces it. That's what he is as the leader of all people... It's not about a simple escapism of saying, 'Well, as long as he's not a racist, it's all okay.'"
