Christian protester heckles grieving gay man speaking about late husband: 'You can't have a husband'

Speaking at a rally for anti-LGBT Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, a grieving Dr. Paul Hard was heckled by a Christian protester who laughed at him as he grieved the loss of his husband.

Anti-LGBT Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended after defying the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling. Moore addressed supporters who held signs saying "homosexuality destroy families" and "sodomy ruins nation."

Not far away, however, a counter protest and press conference organized by the Human Rights Campaign was taking place.

Dr. Paul Hard has been fighting for the last five years, following his husband's death, to have their marriage legally recognized. As Dr. Hard began to speak he referred to "my husband," which drew heckles from one of the anti-LGBT Christian protesters in the crowd.

"You can't have a husband!" the man shouted as he laughed.

GayStarNews reported columnist John Archibald spoke up asking the heckler how he could mock any grieving person, regardless of orientation or his position on Moore. "How can one stand under the banner of God and laugh at another man’s death? How — in the name of God — can one deride genuine grief?" he asked. "Christians cannot let these people define their religion. All they have is volume. As a substitute for moral authority," he continued.

Moore will face ethics charges in September following his actions.
