Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton quickly fired back on Wednesday after Donald Trump called her "a bigot" during a campaign rally.
"He is taking a hate movement mainstream. He's brought it into his campaign. He is bringing it to our communities and our country," Clinton told CNN host Anderson Cooper.
Earlier in the evening, Trump accused Clinton of being "a bigot who sees people of color only as votes, not as human beings worthy of a better future," an overture to black voters. CNN noted, however, that Trump delivered the remark to a nearly all-white audience.

The former secretary of state then recapped the Republican presidential nominee's history of racially-inflammatory remarks, noting that Trump "questioned the citizenship of the first African-American president, has courted white supremacists, has been sued for housing discrimination against communities of color, has attacked a judge for his Mexican heritage, and promised a mass deportation force."
Taken as a whole, she said, that made Trump "someone who is very much peddling bigotry and prejudice and paranoia."
She also dismissed Cooper's suggestion that Trump was backing off of his earlier campaign promise to deport the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently residing in the US.
"My understanding is that the comment you just referred to was the third different position he took yesterday on immigration," she scoffed. "Somebody has told him -- I guess, the latest people he's consulting -- how terrible his deportation plan is."
