CNN's Cuomo fearful for woman refusing to evacuate Hurricane Florence: 'I hope I don't have to come pull you off your roof'

On Tuesday, CNN's Chris Cuomo talked with a local North Carolina woman who is refusing to leave the city in the midst of Hurrican Florence.

Maaike Brandis is a bar owner in North Carolina where Hurrican Florence is supposed to hit. Despite the government telling people to evacuate the area, Brandis has decided to stay and ride out the hurricane.

"I'm not here to give you a hard time about your life decisions, but I just want to make sure you know what you're doing because I want you to be okay," Cuomo said. "So tell me, make your case —why is it okay that you're staying when you've been told it's time to go?"

"It's a voluntary evacuation for where I live right now. I own a small business and a house, and I want to be here in case anything happens. If I need to call my insurance companies," Brandis responded. "If I need to take care of damage around my property whether it's the bar or my house. I've weathered out several serious storms, and I'm not jumping ship. I'm going to go down with the ship if I have to."

Cuomo wished her well and said he hopes he doesn't have to report on her being pulled off of a roof.

"You seem like a very cool and interesting person and I would like to meet you. I hope that the circumstances are not that I'm coming through trying to pull you off your roof in a horrible situation," Cuomo said. I hope it doesn't happen. I hope this storm is completely misunderstood."
