Colbert blasts Trump's immigration 'bill of love': 'If you love someone, kick them out of the country'

Amid the veritable downpour of news on Tuesday, President Donald Trump's televised bipartisan immigration meeting made few waves — but provided excellent fodder for The Late Show's Stephen Colbert.

"Today, Donald Trump held a bipartisan meeting on immigration reform focused mainly on reforming our policy of having immigrants," the host joked.

The stakes, Colbert noted, are very high.

"If the two sides can't find a compromise the federal government is going to shut down on January 20, or as historians call it, 'one year too late,'" he quipped.

The meeting's "open" style allowed "cameras in for the actual negotiations."

"They don't even let cameras into The Bachelor fantasy suite when they're engaging in 'bipartisan negotiations,'" Colbert joked.

The president "seemed confident that a bipartisan solution was possible," the host noted, calling it a "bill of love."

"You know what they say: if you love someone, kick them out of the country," Colbert concluded. "If they come back to you, build a wall so they can't get in."
