Former Ohio state legislator and Bernie Sanders presidential surrogate Nina Turner tore into House lawmakers being caught up in scandals, telling MS NOW's Katy Tur that many of them, regardless of guilt or innocence, didn't seem to pay any mind to how suspicious their behavior looked.
This comes as there is a large push to hold expulsion votes for four scandal-plagued representatives: Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Tony Gonzales (R-TX), and Cory Mills (R-FL) for various sexual misconduct scandals, and Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) for allegations she stole money intended for disaster relief.
"Axios put it this way: what they've been hearing, lawmakers in both parties are exasperated with recent ethics and sex scandals, and some are privately entertaining the catharsis of a proverbial bloodletting," said Tur. "Is that what needs to happen?"
"I think so, and Katy, just even just using the Swalwell case — or not case, but allegations, for example — why are these members having drinks with their staff?" said Turner.
"I mean, first of all, use some common sense," she exclaimed. "My grandmother used to say common sense ain't that common. Just use some common sense. It is not illegal. Certainly it's not immoral if you're just having drinks. But why even put yourself in that position as somebody that lords power over your staff, that you are that comfortable to be out on the town with them? That goes for him or any other other of them, that goes for the men, and that goes for the women. Use some judgment."
"The bloodletting should happen because the American people are sick and tired of being played with," Turner added. "And so this these types of allegations just feed into the frustration and heartache that the American people are already feeling."
