Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey bragged about the exciting new funding for his state that will fund rural broadband to anyone who wants it.
There's just one problem with his statement: The funding is coming from President Joe Biden's "American Rescue Plan" that no Republican supported.
Speaking to MSNBC on Monday, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) laughed with host Chris Hayes at the Republican governor for taking credit for Democratic policies.
"In today's digitally connected world, ensuring access to high-speed internet is key to growing opportunity," Ducey said in a press release. "Today's historic investment will build on the progress of recent years to get even more schools, businesses, tribal communities and homes connected, opening up more opportunities for services like telemedicine and digital learning."
Hayes was quick to point out what was missing from Ducey's statement.
"I'm guessing the [American Rescue Plan] and Biden didn't get a huge shout-out at the press event from the governor today," noted Hayes.
"I'm pretty sure it didn't," Gallego said. "We are connecting rural America and people forget that Arizona has huge swaths of rural area. It is not just Maricopa and Pima. During the COVID shutdown, it was very difficult for students to get online to go to school, very difficult for workers to get online to work, or simple e-commerce. So, we are going to connect rural Arizona. We have a 'not Donald Trump attitude,' we don't care rural area Arizona doesn't vote for Democrats. They are Americans, we'll take care of them. I wish Doug Ducey would understand we're on the same team and give us credit for making this happen. It seems like he wants the best of both worlds. He wants the money and the programs but doesn't want to give credit out."
Ironically, Ducey penned an op-ed last week for the Wall Street Journal, claiming that Biden has left Arizona behind after voting for him in 2020.
