Connecticut cop's ugly anti-immigrant Facebook screeds lead to internal investigation

A Connecticut police lieutenant recorded himself going on an anti-immigrant screed — and is now being investigated by his department.

The New Haven Register reported that a pair videos show Naugatuck Lt. Bryan Cammarata bragging about only speaking English and getting to the front of the line at every store he went to on the Day Without Immigrants protest on February 16, 2017.

"Today is day without an immigrant or some crap but I gotta tell you, this thing is working out great," Cammarata is heard saying at the beginning of the second video, in which he's seen wearing his badge and uniform.

The 2017 protest, which involved immigrants and their allies calling out from work, was created in response to the beginning of the Trump administration to protest the president's hawkish immigration policies.

The lieutenant later said he was happy that everyone he met that day "spoke English, they understood in English" and that he planned on calling all the businesses he went to that day to tell them how pleased he was.

“We’re only a couple hours into it and I’m loving it," Cammarata said.

In the first of the two videos, Cammarata is seen pulling on a red hat emblazoned with the letters "ICE" — the acronym for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement department.

“It’s the first that these videos have been brought to our attention,” Naugatuck Deputy Police Chief Joshua Bernegger told the Register. “They do not appear to be in line with the core values of the police department.”

According to New Haven's WTNH, Cammarata is now the subject of an internal investigation due to the videos, which are being reviewed by the department.
