Cop busts GOP senator's wife for suspended license so she blares music to drown out his voice

The wife of Republican Oklahoma state Sen. Kyle Loveless went to jail over the weekend after she was pulled over for driving with a suspended license and then turned up the volume so the officer could not be heard over her music.

According to a police report, an officer had observed Summer Loveless driving at a high rate of speed on Sunday, while coming within four feet of the cars in front of her.

After the officer turned on his lights, Summer Loveless led him for over a mile before she decided to pull over, the police report said. The officer wrote that she initially refused to roll down her window because she was texting. And when she did roll down the window, she started blaring the music so loud that the officer could not be heard.

"I'm sorry, my music was too loud to hear you," she reportedly quipped.

Summer Loveless was arrested on suspicion of driving under suspension, following too closely and obstructing an officer.

In a statement this week, Kyle Loveless said that he and his wife regretted the incident.

"We both have deep respect for Oklahoma's law enforcement and the tough job they have, and we know no one, not even a state senator or his family, is above the law," he insisted, adding that the incident could be attributed to postpartum depression.

"She is sorry for the incident and has been seeking treatment," Kyle Loveless remarked.

The Oklahomanreported that Summer Loveless had written a Facebook post following her arrest that accused police officers of physically and sexually abusing her.

Although that post was later deleted, the Oklahoma Sheriff's Department said that they were investigating the allegations.

Department spokesperson Mark Opgrande noted that investigators had not been able to find any evidence of an assault during a review of jail surveillance video.

"Summer Loveless was booked into the jail on Oct. 4. She spent approximately 20 hours in the facility before her release on bond. We have been reviewing video of her interaction with staff and while in a holding area," Opgrande explained. "The video does not show any mistreatment of Mrs. Loveless by our staff or anyone else in the jail."

"Throughout the night video evidence shows on multiple occasions she was provided water and bathroom breaks. We believe Mrs. Loveless' allegation of being sexually assaulted stems from her being patted down by a female officer, which is also on video. We find the patdown was appropriately conducted by the female officer and in accordance with policy," he added.

Municipal court records showed that Summer Loveless' license had been suspended in September due to a July traffic infraction. According to the records, she has failed to appear or pay at least five tickets since 2010.
