Country singer Mindy McCready reported dead at 37

Troubled country singer Mindy McCready reportedly died, allegedly of a suicide, on Sunday.

Stacy McCloud, a reporter for FOX 17 in Nashville, Tenn. tweeted about the death initially, writing on Twitter, “A close family friend of Mindy McCready has informed me that the country singer has committed suicide.” Soon after, she tweeted, “The Mindy McCready suicide I told you about has now been confirmed from 4 different sources. A statement from the family is in the works.”

The New York Daily News confirmed that she had died with the singer's brother. E! Online reported that a source said her body was found in Heber Springs, Ark, and KARK 4 News reported that a local sheriff confirmed that her body had been found at her home and that she had apparently died of one gunshot wound.

NBC's Dateline correspondent Andrea Canning, who interviewed McCready late in January, tweeted, "Just got a call from Mindy McCready's best friend that she shot and killed herself this evening. My heart breaks for her two boys. RIP."

McCready, 37, has been in the limelight for both her country music career and for her legal troubles. In 2004 she pleaded guilty to illegally purchasing OxyContin with a faked presscription. She was arrested in 2005 for driving with a suspended license, and she was arrested in 2008 for violating the terms of her probation, reported Entertainment Weekly in 2009.

The New York Daily News reported Feb. 7 that she was in a rehabilitation facility for alcohol and mental health issues after her boyfriend, David Wilson, died.
