Appearing on MSNBC after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded and went up in flames just outside the doors of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on New Year's Day, a senior member of the House Intelligence Committee said he still has many questions after being briefed on what is being investigated as a possible terrorist attack.
Himes noted that driver of the Las Vegas vehicle, as well as one that killed at least 15 people in New Orleans during an attack on the same day, were members of the U.S. Army.
While most of the focus has been placed on the attack in New Orleans, Rep Jim Himes (D-CT) told host Andrea Mitchell, "I try not to be suspicious..." before trailing off.

"The Las Vegas case appears different. Right now there is just no evidence as to what the motive in that particular case would be — that is more of a challenge."
"Are they suspicious about the fact that it was Trump's hotel, Elon Musk's vehicle? Do they think there is some kind of anti-MAGA motivation?" host Mitchell pressed.
"I try really hard in the situations not to trade in suspicions," he parried. "One of the tragic aspects of this event that has taken the lives of more than a dozen people is already political figures from the president-elect on down are using it to confirm their positions."
"You know the president-elect is up there saying that this is clearly caused by poor borders and this has nothing to do with borders," he added. "They were both U.S. citizens and military personnel; this has nothing to do with open borders, so I try not to deal with suspicions."
"You could imagine, it is plausible that because this took place in front of a Trump hotel maybe he had a beef with Trump," he suggested.
