Dem lawmaker: Trump killing DACA will trigger 'civil war within the Republican Party'

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) told CNN on Tuesday that President Donald Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action on Child Arrivals (DACA) program will blow up the Republican Party.

"It's going to cause, in my opinion, a civil war within the Republican Party," he said, while noting that immigration is an issue that starkly divides different factions within the GOP. "Anti-immigrant folks are very strong, without mentioning names I think you've seen some of them, and then on the other side you got some Republicans that want to do the right thing, and then you're going to have the ones in the middle that are going to be pulled by the third parties that will go after them."

Host Alisyn Camerota then asked Cuellar if he thought that Congress would end up passing some kind of legislation to protect undocumented immigrants who were brought into the country as children.

"I am hoping we can do everything we can, I'm going to do everything, I'm going to support, like I've always done, the 800,000 [DREAMers]," he said. "When you think about it, there are 800,000 people got here not because of them but because of the actions of their parents."
