Democrats planning to flood Trump aides with subpoenas for 'sabotaging' of Obamacare: report

With the growing prospect that Democrats may take control of the House -- and possibly the Senate following the 2018 midterms --  leaders of the party are already  making plans to open up multiple investigations into the Trump administration.

At the top of their list: ways in which White House officials went around Congress and attempted to "sabotage" the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

According to Politico, Democratic party leaders are quietly setting in motion how they will use the House’s Oversight, Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means committees where they will hold chairmanships should they take majority control of the House.

The report states that, with control of the committees, comes subpoena power and that "Democrats plan to probe what they see as the administration’s 'sabotage of Obamacare,'" including "slashing of outreach efforts and their promotion of skimpier coverage alternatives."

According to Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), the senior Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, "It’s mainly trying to figure out what they’ve been doing to sabotage the ACA, and what can be done [about it]."

Additionally, Democrats want answers about why the Trump administration decided to partially support a lawsuit from Republican attorneys general against Obamacare when the Justice Department is usually tasked with defending federal laws against lawsuits.

The report goes on to state that Democrats will also be opening up an investigation into the treatment of immigrant children who have been snatched from their families and held in detention centers.
