Director Peter Jackson gives Stephen Colbert famed 'Hobbit' sword to stick it 'to the Tea Party'

Stephen Colbert didn't just get to appear in the Hobbit trilogy, he came away with a prized memento, the Village Voice reported.

Footage taken from the upcoming Blu-Ray release of the series' second installment, The Desolation of Smaug, shows Jackson giving Colbert a prop version of "Sting," the sword carried by Bilbo Baggins, and later passed on to nephew Frodo during the Lord of the Rings adventures.

"This is for sticking it to the Tea Party in the forthcoming election," Jackson says as he gives Colbert the sword. "I think you'll need it."

Colbert, an ardent fan of the J.R.R. Tolkien books that Jackson has adapted for the big screen, announced his involvement in the film in October 2012. Two months later, he transformed his Colbert Report set into something more Hobbit-like for a special series of shows and boasted about getting the sword.

But the Blu-Ray footage shows the off-camera Colbert clearly happy to receive the gift.

"Oh my gosh," he says, before holding the sword up. "Forged probably in Gondolan. Thanks so much. Partner to Orcrist and Glamdring."

The final film in the series, The Battle of Five Armies, opens on Dec. 17.
