'Do you see what's happening?': Orlando shooter reportedly contacted wife during attack

Omar Mateen exchanged text messages with his wife in the midst of committing a massacre inside an Orlando LGBT nightclub, NBC News reported, citing anonymous sources.

According to NBC, Noor Salman texted Mateen around 2 a.m. on Saturday asking where he was following a phone call from his mother.

"Do you see what's happening?" he allegedly responded. When she said no, he sent a follow-up text stating, "I love you, babe."

An anonymous official told NBC that Salman repeatedly called him after the exchange, which took place around 2:30 a.m. -- 30 minutes into the attack at Pulse nightclub, which left 49 people dead and another 53 injured. However, she failed to reach him and only heard about the shooting at 4 a.m., when she was told to come out of the couple's home with her hands up. Mateen was killed at the scene by authorities.

CNN reported that Mateen was also posting on Facebook during the attack.

"America and Russia stop bombing the Islamic state," he wrote. "You kill innocent women and children by doing us airstrikes ... now taste the Islamic state vengeance."

Salman has already spoken to investigators. NBC reported that she is in the process of seeking legal representation.
