One of President Donald Trump's staunchest supporters on television admitted on Tuesday that he couldn't defend the president's latest outburst.
David Urban, a GOP strategist, was asked about a comment Trump made to a reporter on Air Force One on Monday during an interview on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360." Trump called the reporter a "piggy" and told her to "be quiet" after she asked a question about the Jeffrey Epstein files.
"There's no excuse forthat, right? No excuse forcalling anybody piggy," Urban said on Tuesday. "It's myunderstanding that onereporter interrupted anotherreporter. The president gotangry with that. And it was twofemale reporters. But again, no excuse for callinganybody those names. It's justit's kind of silly anddistracts fromso many things."
Trump's dustup with the reporter happened at a time when the president is facing significant pressure to release the Epstein files, as he promised to do on the campaign.
Congress voted in a veto-proof majority on legislation that allows for the files to be released on Tuesday. It remains unclear when Trump plans to sign the bill.
