Donald Trump lashes out at former VP short-lister Newt Gingrich as Trump U controversy rages on

Newt Gingrich spent his Fox News Sunday criticizing Donald Trump for attacks on the Latino judge in California that is handling the Trump University case. Monday morning on "Fox and Friends," Trump wasn't having it with Newt anymore.

"I was surprised at Newt. I thought it was inappropriate, what he said," Trump began about the desperate former speaker.

Co-host Brian Kilmeade proved he's probably never getting a Trump interview again when he asked two things that questioned Trump's strategy on going after Judge Gonzalo. “At a time when we have an anemic economy, how does it help Americans to have Donald Trump questioning a judge’s ethnicity?” Kilmeade asked.

Trump blew it off, claiming he has to talk about such things because "the other side" is talking about it. It proves Hillary Clinton's point that Trump's thin skin might ultimately be his undoing.

"Does anything like that get through and make you want to reform your tactics when someone who has been a supporter of yours [Newt Gingrich] comes out and says this is a huge mistake?” Kilmeade persisted.

Trump played the victim, saying that what he’s trying to do is figure out why he's being treated so unfairly by a judge. "And a lot of people agree with it."

But Kilmeade wasn't giving up, "Let's say everything you said is 100 percent accurate. If you're running for president, and you're running against somebody who's about to get the nomination, and you're trying to outline why you'd be a better president, why would it be to your best interest, your campaign, your party's best interest to focus on a case that's not going to trial until after the election?"

"When they bring it up, I respond to it, Brian," Trump said, the frustration evident in his voice. He then ignored the question and pivoted to pointing at the Clintons, "I respond to a lot of bad things that are going wrong in this country. I respond to the very crooked and dishonest big league, maybe criminally dishonest Clinton Foundation."

At that point co-host Steve Doocy tried to save Kilmeade, but he jumped in again. "What do Paul Manafort and others say about your emphasizing so much on Trump University?"

Trump swore he doesn't emphasize it, rather the media asks him about it to get a response out of him so they can then report he's talking about it.

Doocy finally jumped in and moved on to Trump's attack on NBC reporter Katy Tur, who Trump said has zero access and thus can't write about him. Trump claimed it was like the time his friend Michael Jackson died and everyone was commenting on it without ever knowing him as well as Trump did.
