Comedian John Witherspoon is not impressed with Starbucks efforts to clean up their brand image after arresting two black men, according to an interview with TMZ.
Since the incident, multiple black owned coffee shops have seen an increase in numbers and Witherspoon said more things should be black owned.
“They should get the Black ford, Black coffee, Black bread, Black everything, Black chicken, everything. [Don’t] be worried about no damn Starbucks,” he said.
He added that if he was one of the young men arrested, he would sue Starbucks for millions.
"The CEO said ‘What can they do? What can they do to make it up?’ Give me $5 million and I’ll kiss your ring,” he said.
As a solution, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson announced that on May 29 nearly 8,000 stores will close for a company wide for a racial-bias education training.
Witherspoon said their efforts mean very little.
“That don’t mean sh*t," the actor said. “They’re trying to act like they’re so liberal now. Probably get free coffee too. You get all the Starbucks you want … just come in there and hug a white person.”
