'Meteorological mayhem' threatens swath of U.S. with blizzards and tornadoes

A weekend storm is gearing up to cause a "menagerie of meteorological mayhem" across the Eastern United States, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Severe thunderstorms with a "tornado risk" could pop up in parts of the lower Mississippi Valley and Mid-South, accompanied by heavy rains and winds battering the Eastern Seaboard.

Further north, the storm front could bring heavy snow with high winds and blizzard conditions in parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes.

New York City, Boston and parts of Canada could see winds of up to 60 miles per hour.

"Weather model forecasts are already raising eyebrows among meteorologists, suggesting a roaring jet stream rushing into the storm. That would deliver powerful winds," The Post's report stated.

Wild swings in temperatures are also expected, the Post reported. Before the storm hits, it's expected to be 15 to 25 degrees above average. Afterwards, it will be 5 to 15 degrees below.
