House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has decided to extend her endorsement to Kari Lake, the failed gubernatorial candidate in Arizona now running for Senate in that state — and she was derisively scorched for the move in The Arizona Republic on Friday.
"Stefanik used to be one of those seemingly normal, intelligent, conservative Republicans who one day painted her face white, stuck a red foam ball on her nose, slipped into a pair of enormous shoes and waddled off to join the Trump circus," wrote EJ Montini.
She is continuing this, Montini wrote, with her statement that “Kari Lake is a proven conservative fighter who will secure the border, reduce the cost of living, protect our values, and save America.”
Lake, for her part, has become infamous for her election conspiracy theories, filing a series of ill-fated lawsuits to try to overturn her election loss in 2022 and never actually conceding her defeat. According to recent reports, Lake is privately trying to woo more moderate GOP leaders to her camp, not long after she publicly proclaimed that "McCain Republicans" should "get the hell out" of the party.

This is not the first unfortunate endorsement from Stefanik, noted Montini — she also threw her hat behind Rep. George Santos (R-NY), who was busted for serial fabulism, is under federal indictment for fraud, and now faces an expulsion vote after a damning House Ethics report details how he lied to Congress and used campaign funds for OnlyFans, Sephora shopping sprees, and Botox.
And with Santos looking as if he's on the way out, Lake could be in a position to humiliate Stefanik again, Montini continued.
"It is a Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey endorsement, something along the lines of that time Stefanik stood next to Republican Rep. George Santos, proudly posing with him above the declaration that he represented the 'next generation of Republican leadership,'" wrote Montini.
"Now that Santos is not seeking reelection, however, and may be expelled from the House at any time, there is an opening in the otherwise tightly packed clown car driven by Stefanik. And Kari Lake is calling 'Shotgun!'"
