Elon Musk’s super PAC, America PAC, was worried about Musk’s meetings with foreign nationals, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal.
“Musk traveled with foreigners to such an extent that the staff of his super PAC, which he started last year to help re-elect Trump, became concerned about who was joining him at meetings and events,” the Journal wrote, citing two people who were kept anonymous but are familiar with the group’s operations.
The Journal spoke with another anonymous source from the PAC who said, “They had to institute extensive vetting to keep foreigners out of their efforts.”
The outlet added, “Two campaign staffers also said they were worried about Musk’s coterie of foreign nationals.”
The revelation was buried in the outlet’s piece on several government agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Justice investigation into the Tesla CEO.
“Several U.S. government agencies in 2022 and 2023 tracked foreign nationals coming and going to Elon Musk’s properties, according to people familiar with the matter,” the Journal said.
The investigation was allegedly focused on foreign visitors “from countries in Eastern Europe and elsewhere, who might have been trying to influence him.”
They are not the only ones worried. Earlier this month, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) released a report citing more than 100 occasions where Musk’s companies benefited while he was head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The Journal noted because of his business status, Musk has “relationships with heads of state around the world, sometimes in eyebrow-raising ways.”
Leaning on their previous reporting, the Journal said Musk is in “regular contact” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Musk also has top-secret security clearance because of his role as SpaceX CEO.
Musk didn’t respond to the Journal’s requests for comment.
A White House spokeswoman referred requests for comment to DHS and the FBI.
The FBI also declined to comment.
