Tech billionaire Elon Musk is escalating his attacks on President Donald Trump's agenda with a threat to oust Republicans who don't agree with him.
Musk, who formally left his White House advisory role last week but whose aides still effectively control the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force, has already staked out a position adamantly opposed to Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," which extends and deepens tax cuts for the wealthy while raising taxes on lower-income earners and slashing Medicaid, food stamps, and green energy subsidies — mainly because he sees it as failing to control government spending.
"I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore," wrote Musk on his X platform. "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."
Minutes later he went further, with a clear threat against Republican lawmakers' political careers.
"In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people," wrote Musk.

While he didn't mention the GOP specifically, it followed several quote-tweets from lawmakers who oppose Trump's tax bill, and was in response to another commenter who wrote, "OK LET ME JUST GET THIS STRAIGHT… THE GOP ARE OUT THERE: 1) SPENDING MILLIONS ON LUXURY HOTELS IN UKRAINE 2) NOT VOTING ON ANY DOGE CUTS 3) SPENDING 60% OF THEIR TIME ON VACATION 4) NOT CODIFYING EXECUTIVE ORDERS IS THIS THE “MAJOR REFORM” THE AMERICAN PEOPLE VOTED FOR?!!!"
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), for his part, is pushing back fiercely on Musk's criticisms of the budget bill, which is currently facing the prospect of intensive rewriting in the Senate.
"It's very disappointing, okay?" said Johnson in conversation with CNN congressional correspondent Manu Raju. "I've come to consider Elon a good friend. But with all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong about the One Big Beautiful Bill."
