Enough with the ridiculous Berniebros narrative

Whether it's delegitimizing political protests like Occupy Wall Street or propping up candidates that'll play ball with a corrupt political system, the mainstream press and politicians are extremely good at shaping vicious narratives that work in their favor.

Recently, Bill Clinton vouched for his wife's candidacy by attacking Bernie Sanders and his supporters. Not only did Clinton claim that Bernie's call for a revolution is nothing more than selling pipe dreams, he even went so far as to call his supporters sexist. I know, the irony is incredible.

“People who have gone online to defend Hillary, to explain why they supported her, have been subject to vicious trolling and attacks that are literally too profane often, not to mention sexist, to repeat,” Clinton said, according to the New York Times.

Is it possible that there are some overzealous Bernie supporters who attack Hillary for being a woman? Of course. According to Think Progress, at their worst, Berniebros have accused Clinton supporters of voting “based on who had the vagina” and have invented novel sexist terms such as “clitrash.”

But it would be laughable to use the worst Bernie supporters as representatives of everyone who endorses him. I'm sure Hillary's camp wouldn't appreciate anyone picking her most vicious supporters and using them as examples for why she wouldn't be a good president.

It's also insanely unfair to think that sexist behavior is something Bernie encourages or sanctions, especially when he has gone out of his way to avoid attacking her. In fact, he has spoken out against the so-called Berniebros several times, saying “We don’t want that crap.” He told CNN on Sunday that the sexist remarks are “disgusting” and that “anybody who is supporting me that is doing the sexist things — we don’t want them.”

This whole ridiculous notion of Bernie supporters being "sexist trolls" is the latest narrative being crafted by Hillary's camp, and it's also being regurgitated by the establishment media. It's nothing more than a distraction to lessen the chances of an anti-establishment candidate who wants to shake up the status quo.

Maybe it hasn't been uttered aggressively or concisely enough for the Hillary supporters who can't seem to understand why liberals like me don't want her to win the Democratic ticket. So let me be absolutely clear:

Hillary enjoys the riches of a corrupt political system. She has proven time and time again that she can be bought in the exact same way male politicians have been bought by corporate interests. Even Elizabeth Warren called Hillary out for being influenced by corporate money in a 2004 interview with Bill Moyers. The former first lady went from being against pro-corporate bankruptcy legislation to all of a sudden supporting it after she received hefty campaign donations from those who wanted to see the bill passed. Interestingly enough, the legislation hurt single mothers the most.

That alone negates the appeal of her being a woman, and potentially the first female president.

Does it make one sexist for supporting Bernie over Hillary? That would be as ridiculous as me claiming someone was sexist for criticizing me while my hand was caught in the cookie jar. A person isn't sexist simply for disagreeing with the politics of a female candidate. In fact, when individuals whine about sexism in places where it doesn't really exist, it leads others to believe that any accusation of sexism is illegitimate.

There are deplorable people in every group, whether it be a race, gender, nationality, political party, or sexual orientation. We can't allow ourselves to believe the worst people in those groups represent everyone. But based on the logic of Hillary's camp, supporting someone who recognizes that money in politics is the biggest political issue that impacts everything makes you part of some anti-women organization.

I guess we should all blindly support Hillary because she thinks being a woman makes her different enough. It doesn't.
